We spent the next day enjoying Interlaken including visiting the former dragon caves that had gorgeous waterfalls, and a trip to Harder Kulm where there was a spectacular view of Interlaken and both lakes. That evening we were back on the train for the overnight trip to Amsterdam. We didn’t set a record, but we both had a first; neither of us had ever had sex on a train before that night.

As I lay in his arms, the sound of the train moving on the tracks and the moon shining through the window as we moved through the Alps and north to The Netherlands, I was so content and happy, and yet, feeling that also made me nervous. I’d always admired Ryan’s dedication to his work and family, even as it annoyed me at times on this trip. But when he let himself relax, I discovered a man who was full of life and passion. It was a shame he felt the need to keep that part of himself hidden in his regular life. I was so glad to experience it now. But I also understood that the more I was with him like this, the more I’d want to continue to be with him like this. I could fall for him for sure.

But this wasn’t a relationship that would last. It was a dream trip. An out of my regular life experience. I couldn’t expect to have this when we arrived home. And while a part of me thought I should guard myself from the disappointment that would come when our lives went back to normal, I couldn’t deny myself the untethered joy that came from letting loose. For the next few days, I’d be Mrs. Ryan Strong on my honeymoon trip through Europe.

We arrived in Amsterdam in the morning and were taken to Christian’s home along a canal. The home was opulent, filled with antiques, painted ceilings, and lovely views. We rested for a little bit, and then we were taken to a private boat cruise on the canal. On the boat, we had a picnic lunch with champagne. After we ate, I leaned against Ryan as our guide told us the history of the city. Yes, I was quite happy and content. I could totally get used to this. Not the travel, although that was nice. The man. I could get used to sitting in this man’s arms.

I pushed away the reminder that this wasn’t my real life. In a few days, I’d be back in San Diego making sure Ryan’s meetings were on time and his paperwork was organized. For now, I was a woman infatuated with a man floating along a canal in Amsterdam.
